NWS Phoenix: Thunderstorm with possible 40-60 mph winds tonight

At 6:51 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph was located over Mesa and moving northeast at 15 mph according to a severe weather statement from the National Weather Service in Phoenix. Penny-sized hail may also accompany the damaging winds, according to the NWS. Locations impacted include Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Falcon Fiel Airport and Higley, according to the NWS.

Later NWS reported the thunderstorm was over east Mesa and moving east at 25 mph. Winds in excess of 40 mph were expected, according to a 7:04 p.m. NWS special weather statement.
