Mosquito fogging in Mesa Sunday morning

Maricopa County Vector Control officials announced that mosquito fogging will be conducted in Mesa, Sunday Sept. 13. Follow the department on Twitter for updates.

Mosquitoes trapped during routine surveillance for West Nile virus exceed population thresholds in the area, resulting in the need to fog to prevent transmission of the disease to humans, according to a press release.

Weather conditions, circumstances and time permitting, the following areas are scheduled to be fogged during the time frame of midnight to 5 a.m.:

  • Mesa, Southern Avenue to Baseline Road and from Lindsay Road to Gilbert Road.
  • Mesa, University Drive to Broadway Road and from Power Road to Sossaman Road.

(See a previous story here.) A field supervisor then said officials will fog an area with pesticide from a truck if more than 30 culex tarsalis, or stagnant water mosquitoes, are caught in a trap; if there are more than 300 floodwater mosquitoes swarming; and if any of the samples collected test positive for WNV.
