Mesa police at 1:28 a.m. Sept. 1 responded to an armed robbery at Circle K, 1955 W. University, where four Native American males wearing bandanas entered the store.

Two males walked over to the beer cooler and removed packs of beer. The other two approached the clerk and then pointed a firearm and assaulted the employee, police said.

The suspects took alcohol and cash from the store. A fifth male was waiting outside in a black Dodge Durango. All suspects left in the vehicle, police said.

Police units located the described vehicle a couple miles from the Circle K. The vehicle’s driver failed to stop when police initiated a traffic stop. The driver in the suspect vehicle lost control and crashed in the area of Center and Main Street in Mesa. Two suspects remained in the vehicle and were taken into custody. The remaining three suspects fled the scene on foot. A perimeter was established. With the assistance from the air unit and K-9 the three suspects were located and taken into custody, police said.

Investigators discovered all five suspects were street gang members. Emmanuel Thomas, 23; Eric Loring, 25; Leonard Juan, 25; and Saigen Juan, 19, were all booked on the following charges: Aggravated assault, armed robbery, robbery, assisting in a criminal street gang, threats by a gang member and aggravated robbery, Mesa police said.
