Maricopa County Board of Supervisors meetings can now be viewed online, Board of Supervisors Chairman Denny Barney said in a press release.

Videos will be posted online either the same day or the day following the meeting. Meetings can be accessed by going to the website.

Before the announcement Oct. 23, meetings could be viewed by traveling to the actual meeting or requesting a copy of the meeting on DVD, according to the release.

Chairman Barney said in the release that increasing transparency about how the board does the public’s business has been one of the board’s priorities and is also one of his key initiatives as chairman.

“Citizen access to governmental operations is a fundamental part of our system of democracy,” Chairman Barney said in the release. “My colleagues and I are delighted to increase the openness of Maricopa County. I hope that this additional access empowers our community members to better understand county operations. By viewing our meetings on the Web, people can participate in their government at a time and at a place that is convenient for them. In my opinion, a more transparent government is a more accountable government.”

“Given the size of Maricopa County, it is not always easy for our residents to get to downtown Phoenix for meetings. Posting our meetings on the Web will ensure the community is aware of important issues that may affect their families and them.” Supervisor Marie Lopez Rogers said in the release.
