The city of Mesa and the Chicago Cubs hosted a community rally Friday, Feb. 24, at Sloan Park, 2330 W. Rio Salado Parkway. The rally celebrated the return of the reigning World Series Champion Chicago Cubs to Mesa to kick-off their 2017 baseball season.
The event was the only public stop in Arizona for the Cubs World Series trophy on the State Farm Trophy Tour.
Several Cubs players presented the trophy during a program where they were greeted by thousands of Cubs fans. Mesa Mayor John Giles presented Cubs Manager Joe Maddon with a Key to the City of Mesa. Fans attending the rally were given the opportunity to have a photo with the trophy.
